Reflection Paper

When I saw the class named “Computer-Assisted English Learning,” I thought it might be a class that teacher would introduce many useful tool to learn English by computer to me. To be born in Taiwan, a country that mother tongue is not English, the course provides me a golden opportunity of learning language in such an environment that full of English. It would be helpful than other optional courses. So I decided to sign up for the class at that moment.

In this semester, I was recommended a variety of resources on the internet; such as TED, my ET, learner’s dictionaries, concordancer, and many news sites. My favorite material is My ET. It is like a personal tutor that can help me learn English through speaking practice. It supplies plenty of articles and many sorts of topic, like TOEIC, business English, and Studio Classroom. I can correct my pronunciation, pitch, fluency, and other English speaking skill because it will analyze my speech and provide detailed feedback on how I should improve. It will pinpoint exactly where I am having problems in order to make me speak like a native speaker. My ET is such a wonderful software for learning to speak English.

In Taiwan, many journalists and paparazzo only report political affairs and love affairs of celebrities. However, something is happening in the world at the same time. A person with a very limited outlook and experience does not have any competitive capability. Thanks to the huge amount of progress made as a result of technological developments, I am allowed to view global news on the internet. Another material I am interested in is news sites, such as CNN, BBC News, and The New York Times. These news sites offer me many world news to build up my global vision and make up for my lack of international perspective.

After taking the course, I have learned many useful information that benefited me a lot. I have learned not only English skill in listening, speaking, reading, and writing but also knew how to use free online resources to enhance my English skill by myself, even listened to many brilliant speeches about life and success which are really valuable and unusual that cannot be replaced by anything else. These are all extremely helpful to my entire life.

Although the lesson is over, the course “Computer-Assisted English Learning” makes me entertain my passions for English learning. It motivates me to keep learning and exploring by myself in the future. It is the end of the course, but it is also the beginning of the journey.
